Colorado pitchers have been getting lit up like a pinball machine this season at Coors Field — Kyle Freeland (7.48 ERA), Wade Davis (6.82) and Chad Bettis (6.14) are some examples. Some fans have even said they could do a better job on the mound than guys in purple pinstripes.
One fan took that literally as Nate Patterson decided to participate in the speed pitch challenge located on the concourse behind the bullpens on July 15. A video of him topping out at 96 mph on the radar gun caught like fire on social media.
The Rockies could have used Patterson that day as they got swept in a day-night doubleheader by the Giants, dropping the first game 19-2 and the second 2-1.
In the end, Patterson gets to say dreams do come true as he ended up signing with the Oakland A’s, he tweeted Thursday.
It has to be a bad look for Colorado not to sign someone at their stadium who throws laser beams at 96 mph.
If I were general manager Jeff Bridich, I would have been sprinting from my office down to the concourse to sign this flame thrower.
Guys, we were just chillin at a @rockies baseball game, and my brother decided to step into a speed pitch challenge…he hit 96 mph 😳 @MLB Let’s get him signed! pic.twitter.com/g0fKrvUxzt

Rockies’ payroll issues will only grow in 2020, but will the team improve?
