CINCINNATI (WKRC) – There are three new inductees into the Toy Hall of Fame, and all of them started right here in the Tri-State.
This year’s members are the Magic 8 Ball, Uno and pinball. Here are their ties to Cincinnati:
Magic 8 Ball
The Magic 8 Ball was created in Cincinnati. Albert Carter’s mother was a fortune teller. He based the Magic 8 Ball on one of her inventions.
Merle Robbins loved card games and always played them with his family, so he decided to invent a new one.
The barber saved up money and sold them at his barbershop. Eventually, it became the beloved card game it is today.
Pinball is actually a twist on what was known as a “bagatelle.”
An English man who relocated here and added the spring-loaded lever we now use to start the game and the sounds and lights.
After that, it exploded in popularity.
