Pinball News – Inductees into the Toy Hall of Fame all have ties to Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – There are three new inductees into the Toy Hall of Fame, and all of them started right here in the Tri-State.

This year’s members are the Magic 8 Ball, Uno and pinball. Here are their ties to Cincinnati:

Magic 8 Ball

The Magic 8 Ball was created in Cincinnati. Albert Carter’s mother was a fortune teller. He based the Magic 8 Ball on one of her inventions.

Uno

Merle Robbins loved card games and always played them with his family, so he decided to invent a new one.

The barber saved up money and sold them at his barbershop. Eventually, it became the beloved card game it is today.

Pinball

Pinball is actually a twist on what was known as a “bagatelle.”

An English man who relocated here and added the spring-loaded lever we now use to start the game and the sounds and lights.

After that, it exploded in popularity.
